Dialogue

Initial Cutscene

Norma Creed: There's a pressure building.
Norma Creed: The kind that comes before a storm when it builds and builds but just won't break.
Norma Creed: Yeah, the ravens, they feel it, too.
Norma Creed: Last time I say 'em like this, when the trees were more birds than branches... there were murders.
Norma Creed: Yeah, that was back in 2002, tail end of a long and wicked hot summer.
Norma Creed: By August the whole town smelled rotten and we hadn't seen a drop of rain since June.
Norma Creed: When the storm finally broke and the ravens flew, the killings stopped.
Norma Creed: Never believed what the paper wrote about that vagrant, neither did Helen... despite those boys in the city council leaning on her.
Norma Creed: She took a beatin', coulda hurt her career, but she was right.
Norma Creed: Wasn't human hands cut those girls open.
Norma Creed: An unkindness of ravens, isn't that what they call it?
Norma Creed: My idea of reading is the TV Guide, not anything that could charitably be called literature.
Norma Creed: But even I know signs and portents when I see 'em.

Journal Entries

Report

What interests us is not Kingsmouth's inclination to murder and the occult, but its failed attempts to cover them up. It suggests a town that cannot bear what it is, and is therefore destined - and desperate - to tear itself apart.

The history of Jack stretches back to the great famine in the west. It is a tale of a boy becoming what he was not. If it is meant to, the story will reveal itself to you in full.

As will Jack himself.

Meanwhile, continue to seize Kingsmouth by the buried hairs of its history. The past cannot hide forever.

You really had Zurn worried there. I reminded him that you're expendable, but I admit it's very good to have you back. Redeploying someone at this stage would be such a bitch.

There's a number of murders in Kingsmouth that point to Jack's unique physiognomy. I won't bore you with the tragic details: boy flees famine; boy works on magus's farm; magus's daughter dies; magus tears into boy in pumpkin patch.

The moral of the story: Kingsmouth is not a good place to die.

So try not to.

One day you must describe where you went and what you saw during this latest excursion. I suspect I shall need a drink while you do so.

Jack the Lad - an Irish boy who came to Kingsmouth after the famine. He would have been a tad old to commit those recent murders, though stranger things have happened, as you tirelessly attest.

Whatever his fate, it offers further evidence of the occult energy on the island. I'm pleased that you are willing to go to such lengths to uncover it.

Also suitably concerned.

Walkthrough

There are 5 tiers to this mission.

Tier 1/5

  • Find more information about the murders
Clue 1:
Spoiler
A good place to look for information is in newspaper archives
Clue 2:
Spoiler
Head to the Kingsmouth Town Hall, the archives are stored upstairs in the room on the left.
Clue 3:
Spoiler
The cabinets are labeled by date.
Solution:
Spoiler
In the archive room of the Kingsmouth Town Hall, check the drawer for Q3 2002 in file cabinets

Tier 2/5

  • Find information about the murder case
Clue 1:
Spoiler
The Sheriff would have information on murder cases
Solution:
Spoiler
Use computer in Sheriff's Office. Select 1) "Suspect Database" and then 2) "Checkon, Larry"

Tier 3/5

  • Examine the cell for more clues
Clue 1:
Spoiler
The criminal report mentions that the suspect says "you'll have to ask my ghost for clues"
Clue 2:
Spoiler
You'll have to think outside the box, outside your body
Solution:
Spoiler
This is the most difficult part of the mission to figure out without help because it requires players to voluntarily die in order to continue - something you normally don't consider as a good thing to do. Easiest way is to just do "/reset" CLI command from the chat box. Do not resurrect at the Anima Well or your body, but go investigate the cell. Examine the wall that Larry Checkon's spirit is standing in front of. It can be hard to see and get positioned correctly, but you should get the magnifying glass icon should appear when hovering on the right spot.

The writing on the wall says "The White Ravens Whisper Golden Girls Sorrowful Secrets Are Never Told"

Tier 4/5

  • Figure out what the cryptic message means
Clue 1:
Spoiler
You'll need to still be dead / in anima-form to do this
Clue 2:
Spoiler
When you leave the Sheriff's Office you'll see a white raven on top of the police car. As you approach, it will fly off - follow it.
Clue 3:
Spoiler
If you lose the raven, you're heading to coords (255,173). Look for a line of white ravens sitting on the ground.
Clue 4:
Spoiler
Approaching a raven will make it recite something
Clue 5:
Spoiler
The order the ravens line up in is random, so you'll have to run up and down the line to see which one is sitting where.
  • One for Sorrow
  • Two for Joy
  • Three for a Girl
  • Four for a Boy
  • Five for Silver
  • Six for Gold
  • Seven for a Secret Never to be Told
  • Nine for Sorrow
Clue 6:
Spoiler
What they are reciting is a counting nursery rhyme - One for Sorrow (nursery rhyme)
Clue 7:
Spoiler
Use the clue left by Larry Checkon to figure out what order to use the ravens in
Solution:
Spoiler
You'll have to figure out what order they're sitting in first. Then you'll have to do them in the order written in the clue.
  • 1st: Golden, 6
  • 2nd: Girls, 3
  • 3rd: Sorrowful, 1
  • 4th: Secrets, 7
  • NOTE: The objective for this tier has a history of being buggy if two players try to use it at the same time. If you see someone else doing this step, either team up with them so you both get completion or wait until they are complete before interacting with the objective.

Tier 5/5

  • Find Jack
    • This objective is timed (60 seconds), which is more than enough, as long as you're not waiting too long
    • Head to the location indicated on your map
    • Jack O'Lantern will appear
    • You do not have to kill him, or even fight him this time. This is the first time in the game you encounter Jack, and this time he just runs off.
