Dialogue

Dialogue Scene Name

Nicholas Winter: Finally. Are you with Grayson Security? I've been trying to get a hold...
Nicholas Winter: No. You wouldn't happen to have a helicopter, would you? Of course not.
Nicholas Winter: This is private property, but I won't belabour the fact. I'm not particularly attached to it. Who in their right mind would want an abandoned amusement park on a godforsaken island in the Atlantic?
Nicholas Winter: Aside from Nathaniel Winter, of course.
Nicholas Winter: Yeah, that Nathaniel Winter. Millionaire. Mogul. Also, as it turns out, theme park tycoon.
Nicholas Winter: Nathaniel brought me up here during construction, and even then there were accidents. Workers falling to their deaths. Equipment malfunctioning as soon as it was turned on. Strange whispers at night, according to the crew, coming from the rides themselves.
Nicholas Winter: But he was a stubborn son of a bitch, my father. The park opened, against all odds, right on schedule. The whole island showed up for the ribbon cutting.
Nicholas Winter: But the accidents continued. A roller coaster derailed, killing a family of three. A ten-year-old kid was found... dismembered, behind the cotton candy stand. An employee in a chipmunk costume went berserk, stabbing two teenagers in the eye.
Nicholas Winter: By 1980, Nathaniel was forced to shut it all down. There were investigations. It was all over the papers.
Nicholas Winter: So he closed up shop, stayed behind while my mother and I went back to Boston. Never saw the son of a bitch again.
Nicholas Winter: I remember Nathaniel telling me one, after the bumper cars crushed one of the engineers, that his was all par for the course. "Great deeds require great sacrifice," he said.
Nicholas Winter: Next time I saw my father, he was in a casket. He outlived everyone and left me nothing of his fortune. Except... (Gestures to the amusement park)
Nicholas Winter: I don't want his money. And I didn't ask for the part neither. All I want is answers.
Nicholas Winter: You can say a lot about Nathaniel Winter, but he never made a bad investment or a rash decision. So why in God's name did he build this park?
Nicholas Winter: I've heard them. At night, the rides? They do whisper.

Journal Entries

  • Tier 1: Nicholas Winter's father, Nathaniel, constructed the park in the seventies. Nicholas remembers spending parts of his young at the park during its construction, and he remembers there was accidents and that the crew talked of strange whispers coming from the rides. He always wondered how his father could put everything he had into something as disproportionate and unfortunate as the park, and what kind of obsession could have led to its construction. Investigate the park and the abandoned rides to see if there is even more to the place than meets the eye.
    • Go to the main entrance
    • Examine the map of the park
  • Tier 2: The Octotron is the closest ride and the best place to start the investigation.
    • Go to the Octotron
    • Use the control box to start the Octotron
    • Survive until the ride is over
  • Tier 3: As the Octotron whirred into action, nearly zombies ran to it like moths to a flame. Surely a firm indication that there's more to these rides than just entertainment. Follow the map and go to Sideshow Ally, where there's a mechanical statue on display.
    • Go to Sideshow Alley
    • Disable the statue
  • Tier 4: As you approached the statue it clanked into action, shooting fire and creating mayhem until it was disabled. No wonder there were accidents. Next up on the map is the enormous roller coaster.
    • Go to the roller coaster
    • Ride the roller coaster
  • Tier 5: The roller coast was more like a horror coast. Spirits shrieking and voices whispering. There is definitely something going on here, some lingering madness. Try Lover's Lake next.
    • Go to Lover's Lake
    • Destroy the Mud Golem
  • Tier 6: There was evil even at Lover's Lake. The rumours and stories about the park seem to be more than urban myth indeed. Only two rides to go: the Ferris Wheel and the bumper cars.
    • Go to the Ferris Wheel
    • Examine the Ferris Wheel
  • Tier 7: A terrifying clown like figure appeared as you neared the Ferris Wheel and approaching the ride proved impossible, almost like it was protected by some powerful force. Examine the last ride as well, the bumper cars.
    • Go to the bumper cars
    • Destroy the angry clown

This place offends us, an effigy to stagnation. Festivals are transient, marking the passing of old time for a moment before themselves joining it. Nostalgia can be manipulated, but the time is lost. This is the way of things.

Here, a summer of night has been permitted to continue, perpetual. It serves no purpose other than as a rusting anchor to the past. And it feeds on that past. It has grown fat, and strong.

You are to find the power behind this place and end it. Murder the past, as it has murdered many.

Illuminati.pngIlluminati

What a coincidence, I was just looking into this amusement park deal. Business not pleasure, I hate clowns. Totally a serial killer tell.

Anyway, these things are a huge front for occult energy accumulation, whatever that means. Some were on our books: the White City, Dreamland, Space Mountain...But Atlantic Park is all Nathaniel Winters. Looks like he tried to buy his way into the Illuminati in the 60s, got blown off with the it's not us it's you speech.

That makes for a man with something to prove and no way to handle it. Killer combo.

You were right to investigate this matter. Clearly more has been offered up for sacrifice on these premises than good taste alone.

Something about Solomon Island speaks to the industriously homicidal, making it truly a home away from home for the Illuminati. However, this is not their doing. An engine of suffering serves them no purpose, not even as a hobby project.

The elder Winter had been touched by darkness, but what manner of darkness, and for what purpose? I very much doubt the answer has followed the man quietly to the grave.
