Dialogue

Dialogue Scene Name

Kyra Dexter Your move, Uncle Red.
Red Soon enough. Did you protect your queen?
Kyra Dexter Maybe. Yes? I don't know, I moved the castle thing to, uk, D3.
Red Hm. Great move, if you're trying to kill your queen. Look at the whole board this time. You don't have to fight every single battle. Consider the endgame. Be the player, not the piece.
Kyra Dexter How can I "consider the endgame" when I don't know what you're going to do? I'd have to be psychic. Can't I just surrender already?
Red Hi there, I'm Red, your uncle? If we'd met, you'd know I don't stand for quitters. You always have to play it out, kiddo, even when you're losing, else you'll never learn. Besides, you can't tell when the Joker's going to show up.
Kyra Dexter I thought we were playing chess.
Red Kiddo, when you get to be my age, you're alloed to mix metaphors. Sometimes you just have to stall, stay on the defensive, and wait for that unecpected move that changes the whole board.
Kyra Dexter Sure, I guess. Whatever that means. Guy on horse to, um, F4?
Red Now you're cooking with gas, kiddo.

    • Stake the draug bodies on the nearby pikes
  • Tier 3: Your grisly display had the desired effect, drawing more aggressive and powerful draug inland. Perhaps you can use similar tactics to lure out the leader.
    • Kill the Askr Queen
    • Haul the body of the Askr Queen to Sips Head and stake it.
  • Tier 4: Now the draug seem to be playing by your rules. If this tactic holds up, the immediate draug threat in Tolba Bay could be brought to an end. You should except a tough fight.

    • Stake the Askr Berserker cadaver near Bigfoot Cove
    • Kill the Askr Lord

The elder knew half a truth. It is a game, but one where the rules and conditions are fluid. At times, you will advance silently, at others with a great shout.

On this occasion, you saw how the creatures invaded, methodical, attuned to their own alien rhythm. You seized that rhythm, escalated it primal rage. The headstrong attacker achieves little beyond wearing down his own defences.

Now they are dispatched to the void of all who cannot adapt. You have executed the will of the Dragon.

Strong work out there, champ. The best part of field work is when you have something you can really take pride in. And this is a useful data dump to us. Heinous sea monsters react the same way to their buddies getting teabagged as anyone else does.

And we're seeing a chain of command... that means it can be disrupted. What you're going to learn is that debasement and threats are universally understood concepts. Really, all we need to understand about a creature is where to squeeze.

That reminds me, the lab guys will want to scrape some samples from under your nails.

Ciao-ciao

Well. That was certainly a more radical form of chess than I’m familiar with.

No, I understand your position. The draug would not have yielded over a polite bout of any manner of Iron Age boardgame. Naked barbarism has its place in our conflict. Provided it is not permitted to run roughshod. You cannot allow yourself to become as monstrous as those we oppose.

The Illuminati may have enveloped corruption into their “company DNA,” as the term goes, but the Templars must remain paragons. For the sake of all.
