The jinn are fallen servants of Gaia, but they worship her still...even in exile. Now that dark whispers have infected them, some have fallen even further, into the clutches of a binding rage. Amir would go as far as working with a human to reassert the honour of his race.

Dialogue

Introduction

Amir: Monkey, I will tell you the way of things.
Amir: The place where I first took form would melt this sun.
Amir: It makes your weakness incomprehensible to me.
Amir: Your survival, even more so.
Amir: In my exile, I have watched generations of you filthy brutes whelping, breeding and dying.
Amir: Over thousands of years of your sordid cycles, I grew only to hate you all the more.
Amir: But Gaia must continue.
Amir: You are a side-effect, a happy accident for all monkeys.
Amir: So when I ask you to...
Amir: When I ask you to aid me,
Amir: you understand what is at stake.
Amir: This is a city of slavery, slaves to a corrupting power.
Amir: Animals like you are such easy prey, and it has fed on you well, grown in strength.
Amir: Now it debases even the mighty Jinn, turns them upon Gaia.
Amir: I cannot allow it. I will not allow it.
Amir: We are already exiles, but without nobility, we are nothing.
Amir: The corrupted Jinn must be purged, for the sake of your kind and of mine.
Amir: Swear a contract with me, and together we will sweep through this vile nest as a firestorm.

Ah, the way of things. It is not a topic we often deign to be lectured on. However, the Jinn offer a perspective rooted in ages. They have ruled, served, and suffered. They are familiar with the torturous nature of the cycle.

This Amir - this humiliated sultan - clings like a child to ancient slights. It is perhaps the inevitable outcome of being bound. However, he is a keeper of his word.

Work with him for as long as our goals are the same: to keep the chaos of his world separate from ours.

I have no problem with us entering into contractual negotiations with demons. Though don't always jump at the first offer. Feel free to dictate terms out there.

Hellrifts are a bad deal and need to be killed as often as possible. Whatever's directing the Atenists is calling up reserves from Hell. That's not a merger we want to see happen.

The Jinn may be pompous - most demons are - but they generally keep their word. What gets me about them is all this honor bullshit. For such a "noble" race, they really do get corrupted a lot.

You are becoming an authority on infernal rituals and glyphs. Gladstone accuses you of mindless trial and error, though I suspect he's merely jealous.

Official policy doesn't really condone contracts with hellspawn. Though if one must absolutely shake hands on the sly, better it be a Jinn than a Succubus.

Amir is a Pyrotic Sultan - a significant and honourable rank, I am assured. More importantly, he appears to be a demon of his word.

We prefer not to meddle in demonic quarrels, but aiding one sultan to banish four corrupted invaders is good politics.

Walkthrough

There are 4 tiers to this mission.

There are multiple monsters in The Halls of Cleansing Flames that can be difficult for a solo player doing this at an appropriate level. If solo, it is recommended to use the urns scattered throughout the mission to summon Amir to assist you. However, he is not required for any step of the mission.

Tier 1/4

Tier 2/4

  • Follow the trail of the infernal glyph
    • There will be orange glyphs on the pillars and walls
    • Follow them downstairs to (798,723)
  • Complete the ritual of flame
    • There will be a line of fire on the floor - use one of the runes it ends at and a new line will appear. Keep using runes at the end of the lines until you've created a 5-pointed star
    • If no fire line exists when you enter the room, use the glyph closest to the door to start the fires.
  • Expel the hellish creatures

Tier 3/4

  • Follow the trail of the infernal glyph
    • They will lead you to a room with a large hell-portal in it, at (796,683)
  • Stop the ritual of stone
  • Banish Reshef the Fallen Prince
  • Examine the infernal glyph
    • On the floor, under the portal

Tier 4/4

  • Follow the trail of the infernal glyph
    • Symbols on the walls and pillars like before
    • Follow them down the hallway and then up the stairs, to another portal, at (768,662)
  • Complete the final ritual to expose the first of the corrupted jinn
    • Examine pillars and look at the symbols
      • You need to use the symbols that you followed from the previous steps, in the order you followed them
      • Alternatively, find those whose symbols appear only once. (or E, SW, and NW pillars, and middle symbols on each)
    • If you pick the wrong symbol, you will get knocked down, but not damaged. So, easy to work through
  • Banish Shezmu the Betrayer
