Harbaburesti's priest-in-residence believes that what's buried should remain buried, be it dark secrets or the deceased. An influx of ghouls on the hunt for carrion isn't helping matters.
Dialogue
Introduction
- Father Lucian: I lose count of how many all-night vigils it has been.
- Father Lucian: What runs dry first, I wonder, black coffee or faith?
- Hasdatean: Faith.
- Father Lucian: The coffee.

- Father Lucian: Buried in the graveyard there are both villagers and also the Soviets who worked here in the past.
- Father Lucian: Not a past to be proud of.
- Father Lucian: But sins can be repented, and everyone is entitled to their eternal rest.
- Father Lucian: Then the ghouls came from their pits,
- Father Lucian: digging up the graves, gorging on the dead.
- Father Lucian: I considered how we fast to regain our innocence, and I believe this is a universal truth.
- Hasdatean: (yawns) Yes, I starve, but I am as pure as the Carpathian snow.
- Father Lucian: Perhaps in time it will erode your temperament?
- Father Lucian: I believe to deny the ghouls their foul banquet will calm them and bring peace, at least to this small sanctuary.
- Father Lucian: There are many things put beneath earth that should remain beneath earth.
- Father Lucian: (looking at Hasdatean) Oh, ah...present company excepted, of course.
- Hasdatean: Well played Father. You have fangs after all.

- Tier 1: In their search for meat, ghouls have churned the graveyard to mud and spread their disease. There is little sanctity left here - the exposed remains are better off destroyed.

- Tier 2: Perhaps these are the secrets Father Lucian hinted at. Going by the marks and the stench, the ghouls have dragged some of the cache's contents further into their territory.

Patterns emerge in many ways. Scavengers are experts at scenting out what was left for dead.
This work, and all of science's work on the body, is misguided. The flesh will always be weak, unable to endure what is demanded of it. Only the mind is strong. A perfect mind receives and transmits force better than any genetically engineered specimen.
We thought these experiments ended, but now patterns have corrected us. What you have discovered is merely the tail of the matter. Follow it to the head, and strike it off. We do not permit its continuation. Kill the past.

Burying your dirty laundry in a cemetery is so...rustic. I guess we've just come to take our variety of disposal options for granted, i.e. industrial landfills, construction sites, nuclear missile silos and so forth.
Speaking of rustic, there's no chance we can restore those reel-to-reel tapes. It's a bust as far as historical data theft goes. But that's no big whoop, I mean, all the military scientists who defected to the US then defected to us.
Now these guys are getting old, nearing retirement, but maybe your laboratory holiday snaps will jog their memories. Keep digging until you hit paydirt.

How delightfully nationalistic of the Soviets: they had a valley full of monsters and still built their own.
We assume this burial was intended to be a short-term storage option, enacted in haste half a century ago. The Soviets planned to exhume the graves themselves, but never returned, and if not for the ghouls the evidence could have eroded here in peace.
Learn what you can about these forbidden experiments - forewarned is forearmed. I would hope records are all that remains to be found, but at this stage I think we both know better.

Walkthrough
There are 4 tiers to this mission.
Tier 1/4
- Go to the graveyard
- Marked on your map, outside the church
- Look for anything unusual in the unearthed graves
- There is a "Data tape" in the grave at (843,1280). The upper section, near the mausoleum.
- Kill 7 ghouls
- There is typically either 2 Ghoul Hoarders or else 2 Ghoul Foragers at each grave site
- Burn 3 of the unearthed coffins
- Once you've killed the 2 Ghoul Hoarders, click on the coffin to get it on fire
Tier 2/4
- Enter ghoul territory
- Marked on your map, via a path out of the graveyard
- You'll have to fight past a few Trash Ghouls
- Search the junkyard for tape 2
- Located at (687,1328), the northwest section of the ghoul area, on one of the their trash sculptures
- Search the junkyard for tape 3
- Located at (696,1285), to the left as you come into the area, on a trash sculpture near a spotlight
- Search the junkyard for tape 4
- Located at (665,1298), the western section of the ghoul area - on a stake with some skulls, outside a burrow, next to a water tank
Tier 3/4
- Find a way to read the tapes
- Find the broken tape reader inside a the bunker marked on your map, at (645,1322)
- Find a replacement tape drive
- Located at (677,1283) inside a refrigerator
- Search for replacement wiring
- Located at (707,1324) there is a Ham Radio on the ground you can use
Tier 4/4
- Repair the machine
- Back inside the bunker at (645,1322)
- Kill Scrapheap Ruler
- Feed the tapes through the reader
- Use the reader
