Discord
Hey, not sure if you saw my message earlier. We have a discord now here: https://discord.gg/bDNEYYZ
I'm hoping this will allow us all to communicate better. This is not meant to be a replacement of talk pages, but it's great for those times when we need to ask a question quickly or need to collaborate real time.
It is not ready to be public yet, so I'm not posting the link in official channels, but feel free to share it with other editors. We have separate channels for general discussion, as well as specific channels for general wiki talk, help, and feedback. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the Discord as it's still a work in progress. -- Hsekiu (talk) 19:29, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm, no, must have missed that. Although had no idea what discord is either - thought it was a VOIP program, didn't know it did text also. I signed up, but I suck at using social media (no twitter, no facebook, etc) so I'll try to keep up. Although not public, any problem if I invite my wife? She knows you from twitter or facebook or some other site, and she's much more likely to see a post and call my attention to it Sojourner (talk) 23:07, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
- No worries. I am not the best either with Discord, I'm still learning. Most people nowadays use it as an organized chatroom.
- I've explained in the chat to the people already in it that it is not intended to be a replacement for talk pages. Obviously, not everyone will or be able to use Discord so it's always important we use talk pages when appropriate. This is meant more for keeping in touch and on the fly contact, or giving someone a poke in case they didn't see something they were meant to.
- Feel free to invite your wife, she's welcome here. The link I sent you should work for her as well. Let me know if you need any help. -- Hsekiu (talk) 00:23, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Assignments
No decision on format for Assignment missions yet but we've been chatting on discord, I made a lame mockup: https://wiki.crygaia.org/view/User:Skolia/sandbox/prototypes/Assignments
Done With Edits
Done editing Dawning of an Endless Night (it should now be accurate for SWL). --Skolia (talk) 21:01, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
Issue with Template:Overlay_legend
Template:Overlay_legend overall works but there is an issue, the images for the green pins appear to be missing or misnamed.
Image:1 Map Pin Green.svg ... Image:50 Map Pin Green.svg are missing. (I haven't checked the other colors other than spot checks).
Hmm may not be that simple, File:1_Map_Pin_Green.svg does appear to exist but
|alpha51 = {{#if:{{{green1|}}}|[[Image:1 Map Pin Green.svg|50x13px]]}}
doesn't seem to be working.
The /doc page for overlay_legend "Error: Image is invalid or non-existent" where the green pin should be on the map.
--Skolia (talk) 03:45, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Not sure what is going on here -- The pins exist, because you can see them on the legend below the map. So not sure why the overlay is saying it can't find them. I was hoping it was an easy "we couldn't get a copy of it from the old wiki" and recreate them. But, not sure what is broken. Will look at it. Sojourner (talk) 13:06, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, it did wind up being missing pins from the migration off .com to .org -- Looks like the Template:Overlay_legend/Image template calls the pins as .png but we were only able to grab .svg files off the old wiki. We had them for a few of the yellow pins, but not for the other colors. I've changed that template to use .svg files instead, and now it all works. Although you may have to refresh pages to get them to display properly (usually I do an edit and then cancel to force them to refresh). Sojourner (talk) 13:34, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Mission Levels and Rewards
I've been going through and adding the levels as you make SWL versions of mission pages. You can use my progression guide as a reference for those if you want. Google Sheet (You'll want the "Progression" tab).
Unfortunately, I didn't track the number of bags of each type but the recommended levels are all correct, etc.
Alternately, we could create a category for 'articles needing levels' and I can go through them later. (I'm working on adding intro/cutscenes anyway.) --Skolia (talk) 19:41, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- As I'm going through the game on my main, I'm taking screenshots of the end rewards, so I know the reports / XP / shards / bags is correct. So thats where all those desert mission updates came from - screenshots from when he was in that zone. But, I don't always have the level or any of the details. I have another character that I'm using for doublechecking all the walkthroughs and monster stats and all the in-depth details that I don't always get when I'm running on main. He's the one still gathering data on Solomon Island. What I should be doing is putting Template:Missionstub on missions that are missing information Sojourner (talk) 23:58, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Special Ability Bars
Wow you're really clipping along!
I've been a bit less busy with the wiki and more 'playtesting' my play order with an alt but I am going to be adding cutscenes/intro videos as I process them and get them on youtube.
We should probably discuss this with others but I was thinking about any mission that has (one or more) special ability bar, we should probably document that (so I'll be replaying some of the missions to get images). I played with this on The_Pagans. --Skolia (talk)
- I try to document them in most cases. It often depends on what the ability is. In the mission under the black pyramid where you're holding a torch -- your ability bar is replaced with "burn" and "drop". Something that simple I don't typically do much other than note that the ability bar is replace with that. For something like when you become a Krampus in PvP during the Winter Holidays and you get all new abilities - I try to document all of the abilities just like we do for regular abilities and then link them to the mission. I think for the winter holiday mission with the flute I just did something along the lines of "1 = A, 2 = F" or something like that. It's probably a case-by-case basis depending on what you think would be the most helpful to readers. Although a screenshot of the new bar is probably good in all instances Sojourner (talk) 14:24, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
Spoiler Wrappers
Style wise, and I've talked a little bit with our "fearless leader" on discord, I'm thinking that any images etc in the gallery that are spoilery should have a spoiler wrapper. I looked at the spoiler template and noticed it actually supports a label so "Clue 1: spoiler" isn't necessary, you can just label that spoiler "Hint" or "Clue 1".
I also noticed you using blockquote to have the spoilers format better with the walkthrough so I've started going back through and applying that. --Skolia (talk)
- Previously the decision was that if it was an investigation mission, we would wrap stuff in spoilers. That way readers could get clues if they wanted them, without it being an instant giveaway of the solution. For all other mission types, the assumption was that if players are reading the article, they are looking for information so there is no reason to hide it. Even for investigation missions, it tends to be hit or miss if we hide the pictures or not. The general rule of thumb being "If a picture in a later tier would give away a spoiler for something that needs to be discovered in a previous tier, then hide it. Otherwise, dont". The Meowling is a good example where there is no reason to hide the pictures, they don't give away anything and Immersion is one where they are hidden because they are the walkthrough of the computer screens Sojourner (talk) 14:24, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
Dialogue
I did discuss with Hsekiu about Dialogue taking up a lot of room on some missions and we thought it might work better if we move it down the page, after the walkthrough. I've also been using the spoiler tag, not so much for spoilers but to have it default so it's not expanded so it doesn't eat up so much space. --Skolia (talk)
- Dialogue should definately be after walkthrough. After Report/reward even. The order for missions was changed a while back, but very few of the missions have been updated so far. I've been trying to update them as I update the mission. It should be:
- Mission Box
- Journal Description
- Journal
- Walkthrough
- Report/Reward
- Dialogue
- Other Information (Achievements, etc)
- Trivia
- Media
- For hiding the Dialogue -- makes sense for extra-long Story Missions since those pages are huge. For other pages (with some possible exception of Investigation missions) - its a toss up. Since it should be down towards the bottom, hiding it doesn't really help except for maybe pulling the media up. I'd lean towards not using spoiler on pages with only a single (usually intro cutscene) dialogue, not using it on pages where dialogues are short, and only using it if we really need to trim down the length of the page for some reason. Journal Template
Speaking of, I think it would be really cool (I don't know if this is possible) if the Tiers in the Journal template started out collapsed but expanded (like the actual mission journal). It's not a big deal on 80% of the missions but the larger ones it takes up a LOT of room. (It SHOULD be doable since the spoiler template can do it, it's probably a style sheet at the end of the day.)
I also added "Item Investigation" type the the Journal template. I couldn't figure out how to add it to the Missionbox though. Also the Journal template seems to have an issue... sometimes if the parameters are lowercase instead of capitalized. (I haven't looked for a few days so it's possible it's been fixed in the meantime.)
- We should be able to make the journal sections collapsible. I'll have to play with it. May need to get Hsekiu to add to the CSS, may be able to do it with what we currently have.
- All of the parameters should start uppercase in the Journal template. I really dislike that since all other templates are lowercase. But, I'm hesitant to change it since it would break all pages using that template until they are updated. When I'm looking at collapsible, I'll see if I can also make it take both Upper and Lower case so that we can start using lower and eventually delete the use of upper.
- I'll also get "Item Investigation" added to the mission box Sojourner (talk) 14:24, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
- No changes needed for the Missionbox template - just enter "Item Investigation" for the type=, and it will automatically tag the mission with Category:Item Investigation missions. I've created that category page. Dirty Laundry has been configured with this. Sojourner (talk) 00:56, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- Changing Template:Journal to use both lowercase and Uppercase is going to be a real pain in the ass. I think if we want to make it look like other templates, the way to do it will be to use Special:ReplaceText and go through and replace the parameters one at a time -- "Search for 'Tier1=' and replace with 'tier1='" and then repeat until everything is done. Then update the template to use lowercase. Not sure if it's worth the effort or not. Uppercase is annoying since everything else is lower, but it isn't broken. Sojourner (talk) 01:07, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Character/NPC Pages
I noticed you updated Npcbox template.
When I started working on the Kingsmouth NPCs the other day Hsekiu had me (I asked her beforehand what style/format she wanted since we have a few different ones) use Characterbox instead of Npcbox, I'm not sure why we have two different ones. (Maybe we should all meet on Discord and figure out which templates are in use and which are depreciated?) --Skolia (talk) 22:28, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- That's perfect - I was going to say that we have about 100 pages using NPCbox and about 100 pages using Characterbox, and was going to ask which to use. At some point I'll put in a round of effort to get things moved off NPCbox and onto Characterbox so that we can delete NPCbox Sojourner (talk) 23:12, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Spam users
Hey I just removed some spam content. Spammers create a new account, and fill in some spam in their userpage, and that's about all from their activity on the wiki. I cleaned those pages: WinnieOber63, DemetriaHeagney, ChristoperBoyce, Other suspicious pages: SashaHillgrove1, Rosalyn7581, OllieSoriano7, SashaHillgrove1 I only checked pages from users active in the 30 last days, so there is a distinct possibility more of them exist.
