Despite the efforts to suppress and control during the last year an echo of the Mayan apocalypse remains. Perhaps, like a scream through the halls of time, it will bounce back and forth, echoing into every year and bringing with it new threats and old enemies.

Dialogue

Tier 2

As you approach the location, fireworks go off
You then wait at the truck
You then decide to wait on the walkway
You get tired of standing and sit down to wait
You wind up falling asleep
Montgomery de la Roche: (to Arun) The Mayan emergency kit was your idea.
Montgomery de la Roche: You don't have to talk to me, but you could at least talk to-
Montgomery de la Roche: (noticing you waking up) Ah, there you are.
Montgomery de la Roche: Merry Mayan Prophecy!
Montgomery de la Roche: Now, some would argue that the Mayan prophecy simply signifies the end of a cycle, and not necessarily...
Montgomery de la Roche: you know, the end of the planet, the end of us, the end of everything...
Montgomery de la Roche: However, my esteemed colleague whom I respect and care very much for
Montgomery de la Roche: disagrees with that assessment. Vehemently.
Montgomery de la Roche: And I must admit that the evidence appears to be bearing him out.
Montgomery de la Roche: (calling back over his should to Arun, who is still in the truck) Did you hear that Arun? I am admitting that I was wrong.
Montgomery de la Roche: (back to you again) I may have called his Mayan theories "New Age Poppycock."
Montgomery de la Roche: He then called me a stuffy old goat. So I called him a Morninglight apologist.
Montgomery de la Roche: He called me an insensitive fart. I called him a self-centered Bollywood reject who I wouldn't...
Montgomery de la Roche: Well, I'd rather not get into the worst of it. But you get the idea.
Montgomery de la Roche: The end is nigh. On all fronts.
Montgomery de la Roche: By all accounts I am a stubborn and foolish old man.
Montgomery de la Roche: The boy has some remarkable ideas. And he even had the foresight to ensure that
Montgomery de la Roche: he could share them with the right people should the need arise.
Montgomery de la Roche: Well, the need appears to have arisen. And the cutting words of an old fart musn't get in the way.
Montgomery de la Roche: I should hate for the world to end like this.

    • Read the Archaeologist's notes

The Mayan inscription signals the beginning of the end of days. It is a period - the length of which very much depends on us.

Ultimately, we believe the world will end with a whimper, not a bang. The child will scream softly in the end. But that doesn't mean there won't be a thousand bangs that come right before.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

The harbingers do not tread lightly. Each step resonates like the march of a thousand armies. And they aren't even the worst of what is out there.

These kinds of predictions are a dime a dozen. Most of the time they're right, but there's no such thing as a clean break.

Example : we've got verified prophecies that say the Council should've fallen by now. The council is pretty much impotent and penniless. But technically they're still kicking. That doesn't mean the prophecies were wrong, just that we need to be open in how we interpret them.

The Mayans predicted the end of this age. There are going to be signs of this across the world that you need to deal with. Is it all going to come crashing down on one specific date ?

Maybe.

But I'm betting it gets dragged out.

Y2K fizzled out and the crazies are desperate to latch onto another apocalyptic date. Pardon my skepticism, but for now I'm leaning toward the "poppycock, pure rot" school of thought on this one.

Feel free to convince me there really is something to this Mayan End of the World talk. I suppose it's not out of the question that all the alarmist hype has in fact been covering up something of substance.

However, if you try to sell me on "spiritual alignments" and shove a Morninglight pamphlet in my face, our relationship shall come to a decisive end.
