Cucuvea is plagued by the minions of an ancient enemy. With the boundaries between worlds beginning to wane, her tree is more than a safe haven for mythical creatures, it's an outpost that helps defend everything beyond the forest.

Dialogue

Introduction

Cucuvea: You'd think a lovely old lady like me would have no enemies.
Cucuvea: Well, when you've been around for as long as I have, you're bound to make some.
Cucuvea: Most are long dead. Some unfortunately, are as long-lived as I am.
Cucuvea: (taking a picture of you with a camera) Say "hoot!"
Cucuvea: (looking at the camera) Why is this little wheel pointing to "Food?"
Cucuvea: I can't ever seem to make things sharp.
Cucuvea: Those Third Age holo-imagers were so much easier to use.
Cucuvea: The vampire queen sees me as either a threat or an annoyance. I'm not sure which but she wants to get rid of me.
Cucuvea: I thought I'd be extra annoying and send her a photograph.
Cucuvea: Oh well. I can always make a swift getaway.
Cucuvea: But I'm needed here. I'm protecting more than my tree against Lilith's children.
Cucuvea: If I flee, it won't be long before they all fall, and that'll cause trouble everywhere.
Cucuvea: They're making your life easier, though, gathering in one place like that.
Cucuvea: Just the sort of thing we need for a preemptive strike.
Cucuvea: And I'll see if I can't dig up some other device to capture your moment of glory.

We do not claim to understand Cucuvea's origins any more than we understand the origins of chaos. However, that is not to say that either is beyond us. One need not fully comprehend an inner clockwork in order to grasp the nature of its effect.

Cucuvea is the last of her kind - a solitary and nocturnal creature. Throughout the ages she has been a symbol of wisdom, sorcery, and death. Like chaos itself, she has proven her unremitting energy and endurance.

We must do all we can to keep this precious creature on the precipice of violence - far enough from the clutches of her enemies, but no so far as to feel entirely free from them. Through fear and the promise of security, we will draw out the insights of both the owl and her hunters.

We're in the heartland of mythical here. I'm dusting off the fairytale section, but frankly it's been a while. Until we process the facts, you're simply going to have to rely on your initiative.

The going hypothesis is that Cucuvea may be one of the oldest creatures in the world - certainly of the not-trying-to-kill-us variety. We haven't pinpointed an age just yet, but we're talking extremely experienced and/or senile.

The Illuminati are admittedly a youth oriented organization. We respect power more than experience. But in the case of Cucuvea we're outside our frame of reference. Filing this one under TBD.

This confluence of forces is historically momentous, I'm quite sure. I admit I would be nervous if it were anyone but you in the region.

As much as we know about the world, I personally have very few frames of reference to draw on at the moment. There are pre-histories involved that Gladstone is only beginning to find the right pronunciations for.

Nevertheless, one does not require an occult Oxford degree to separate right from wrong. In fact, an overabundance of academic knowledge can often get in the way of moral instincts. One need only remember what happened to Gladstone back in Guinea with that cult experiment of his. To test a hypothesis indeed!

Walkthrough

There are 5 tiers to this mission.

Tier 1/5

  • Search Cucuvea's tree for useful items
    • Click on a yellow-outlined usable item in the tree (one of the three listed below)
  • Pick up a crystal
  • Pick up an imbued apple
  • Pick up a Gaian root
  • Go to Cucuvea's anima well
  • Plant the Gaian root to cleanse the immediate area
    • Summon's a Stone Land Wanderer to go with you for the rest of this mission
    • If you get too far away from him, you can lose him

Tier 2/5

Tier 3/5

  • Find a path to the top of the canyon
  • Reach the sniper's nest
    • Marked on your map, further up the road
    • Be sure to hug the cliffwall, and avoid the sniper's headshots (approximately 1,000 HP per shot).
      • If you have the buff Warning: Sniper zone on you, then he is able to shoot at you.
      • If you have the buff Cover on you, then you are within his range, but something is blocking his line of sight and you are safe
  • Kill The Sharpshooter

Tier 4/5

Tier 5/5

  • Find the leader of the southern ridge
  • Disrupt the ritual and kill Tugomir cel Mare
    • There will be three Valcean Veinweaver around him. If you attack him directly, they will aggro as well.
    • It is possible, and easier, to kill the three vampires surrounding him one by one, then attack him once he is alone.
    • There is a side mission, Sacred Protection located right next to them -- take that side mission, and you will receive and item than can weaken the vampires. Using this item will pull them one at a time as well as making them easier to kill.
    • You may want to drag Tugomir cel Mare off a little bit when you fight him, depending on how long the fights have lasted, to avoid any of the vampires that were around him respawning
    • Just before you kill him, he turns into a bat and flies away
