Dialogue

Introduction

Sandy "Moose" Jansen and Andy Gardener are talking with each other over cups of coffee

Moose: That's damn good coffee, Andy. You sure know how to make a man happy.
Deputy Andy: Why thanks, Sandy. All I did was fill her with water and change the filter, but I appreciate it.
Moose: The offer still stands, Andy. When this is all over, you're welcome to hop on the back of my bike and go explore the open road together.
Deputy Andy: Ah, geez, thanks. I'm sure it'd be fun, but I couldn't leave this town or Sheriff Helen. It'd just feel wrong.
Moose: Well I respect that about you. You're a good man, and any woman would be lucky to have you.
Deputy Andy: Well, uh, there hasn't been any... But that doesn't mean I, uh, I...
Deputy Andy: Ah, geez, I'm sorry.
Moose: Relax, my friend. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.
Moose: (noticing you) Well hey, look who's back. Cuppa Joe?
Moose: The Deputy and I were just discussing the war effort, and it looks like we're having mixed success.
Moose: Back before I found the open road, I made my living as a financial analyst on Wall Street.
Moose: It wasn't the life for me, but it taught me some important things about numbers and statistics.
Moose: With enough trial, and plenty of error, I've been able to gauge the effects of my weapons of mass destruction.
Moose: Now, from what I can tell, no one shoe fits all, and depending on the tools, different screws turn at different speeds.
Deputy Andy: What the heck does that mean?
Moose: It means those creatures out there react differently to the weapons.
Moose: Some have tolerance for fire and heat; others are easily brought down by shrapnel.
Moose: And I've made a list.
Deputy Andy: Different folks, different strokes, as they say?
Moose: Andy - that's the wisest thing I've heard anyone say today.

Tier 4

Upon entering Edgar's Scrapyard

Edgar: (Inside his bus, looking out a window) Whosat? How didya get past the boys?
Edgar: Tango! Cash! Where you at, boys?
Edgar: Wait. Wait, wait, wait! I reckon-eyes you,
Edgar: you been here before, ain't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Edgar: I'd recon-eyes that ugly mug anywhere. Hee hee hee! Oh boy!
Edgar: (Coming out of his bus) Things round here ain't no better now than they was back then.
Edgar: I think I could fairly say they've gotten a whole heap worse on top of it.
Edgar: There's some fucked up shit in that yard.
Edgar: Oh yeah. Clankering tranformators and tiny hovering beeper-creepers.
Edgar: Saton-on-a-stick, I been taking 'em apart and tinkering and rippin' 'em apart again!
Edgar: Now I tried to make the insides all jive with the short bus,
Edgar: but she was having none of it. Too fancy for my baby-girl. (patting the bus)
Edgar: (Whispering to you) So I started tinkering behind her back...shhh, don't you tell her now!
Edgar: (normal voice) What we're aiming towards here is a full on specify-station of quantum motors.
Edgar: That's just like regular motors, except with fancier figurin', you know?
Edgar: For now this is all simply...Theo's-reticle.
Edgar: (Picking up the quantum bracer) You followin' me? Foreign-sample, take these doo-hickeys here...
Edgar: No, no, don't you touch it!
Edgar: Jay-sus Christ and his virgin mama, I ain't done splainin' yet!
Edgar: This here is sensitive to the most probably of the infant-tits at any given point in time.
Edgar: You understandin' me? It works on the uncertainly principle.
Edgar: Means I ain't even certain it'll work yet!
Edgar: But! Supposin' you had enough power and perfect symmeteries to channel the infant-tits...well, then! Hoo!
Edgar: Boy, oh boy! I reckon all this science-talk's making your brain hurt.
Edgar: Shit, I know the feeling. Been feeling that feeling all my life, friend.
Edgar: I mean if those little shits in middle school could see me now...
Edgar: "Edgar, he ain't got much upstairs! He's feeble! He's a retard! He'll never amount to nuthin, that Edgar!"
Edgar: Little fuckers. Look who's still alive. Look who's got a ride outta this fuckin' mess.
Edgar: Look who's tinkerin' with quantum motors. The retard, that's who!
Edgar: Yeah... the fuckin' retard.
Edgar: Please ignore my French, but my mama told me to take pride in calling myself a 'retard',
Edgar: so the other kids wouldn't have power over me.
Edgar: So if it offends you - well, then,
Edgar: just go fuck yourself.

This is precisely the kind of inspired genius we seek in our scientific ranks. Quantum chaos is a blossoming branch of study and Edgar's insights - once adequately translated - should give us a wonderful push forward.

Our current focus is distinguishing "itabities" from "bititities." We're confident that once that's done, quantum theory will never be the same again.

In the meantime, do not be put off by this new device's primitive appearance. Things can always be dressed up if need be. The important thing is that it works.

Illuminati.pngIlluminati

If you really want to wear that quantum death trap around your wrist you do so at your own risk. But just so we're clear, you are not covered for this. Work related blade injuries, shot-off toes, chainsaw gashes, all of these we are equipped and ready to deal with.

Scrapyard Edgar's beer can quantum technology? That's not a box you get to tick on the insurance plan.

However, feel free to proceed if you think this is something that can get results out there.

Fun fact: results are all that matter.

Templars.pngTemplar

I try very hard to remain open to the times and to new technologies. However, I also believe in rigorous and extended testing. The majority of devices you have wielded to this point I have been able to understand, if only on a theoretical level.

In this case, I haven't a clue. If something goes wrong out there, am I supposed to change the beer can? Restructure my agent on some molecular level using "fired up bititities"?

I have yet to decide if Edgar is on the cutting edge of science or utter madness. Likely it is both.

Do be careful.

Walkthrough

There are 6 tiers to this mission.

Tier 1/6

  • Read Moose’s note about improvised weapons.
  • Pickup the quantum core from Edgar's package
    • Right next to the note
  • Acquire a spring
    • Go into the Sheriff's Office, and there is an old matress on the floor you can use
  • Acquire a car battery
    • There are a couple of them, some are inside the office some are outside
  • Acquire a metal tube
    • It will be outside the office, but within the perimeter. There are a couple of them, but one is on the back of the truck with a port-a-pottie
  • Assemble the parts into battery acid grenade launcher
    • If you look at Moose's note - he shows the four parts needed.
    • Down in the bottom right corner of the note is the layout for how the devices should be put into the assembly window
    • Press "Y" for assembly window
  • 0/50 Test the Battery acid grenade launcher
    • Target a monster, and then use the grenade launcher out of your inventory (it does NOT equip like a weapon)
    • After about 10 or so, the launcher will break.
  • Disassemble the battery acid grenade launcher
    • Press "Y" for assembly window, put it in the disassemble box

Tier 2/6

  • Acquire a fire extinguisher
  • Acquire a chemicals
  • Assemble the parts into a chemical fire extinguisher
    • "Y" to assemble
    • Use the Moose's note to lay them out in the correct order/shape
  • 0/50 Test the Chemical fire extinguisher
    • Again, use it from your inventory just the like battery launcher
    • It too will break after about 10 uses
  • Disassemble the chemical fire extinguisher
    • Same as with the battery launcher

Tier 3/6

  • Objective: Acquire a metal rod
  • Objective: Acquire copper wire
  • Objective: Acquire rifle parts
  • Assemble the parts into an electric ray gun
    • "Y" to assemble
    • Moose's note for the correct order/layout
  • 0/50 Test the Electric ray gun
    • It doesn't have to be on zombies, the Golems nearby work just as well
    • It will again break after 10 or so uses
  • Battle the Deviant Decoherence
    • He will spawn when the weapon breaks
  • Disassemble the broken electric ray gun
    • Same as with the previous weapons

Tier 4/6

  • Go see Scrapyard Edgar at Edgar's Scrapyard
    • Cutscene will play when you approach his bus
  • Read Edgar’s notes about his new quantum device.
    • On the table next to the notebook for the It Takes Two To Tango mission
    • Even if you use this walkthrough to do the mission, the notes are worth reading....
  • Pickup the incomplete weapon.
    • Next to the notebook

Tier 5/6

  • Use the fried quantum core to charge a roaming golem.
    • Find a nearby Golem and use the Fried Quantum Core on it
    • NOTE: The Core, NOT the unfinished weapon
    • Doing this will turn the golem into different type of golem (Quantum Mud Mill or Quantum Spew Factory depending on what type of Golem you original zapped)
  • 0/8 Collect quantum bits
    • Kill the quantified Golem and it will leave behind a bit
    • Repeat using the core and killing Golems until you 8 bits
  • Assemble the quantum bits with the quantum core
    • "Y" to assemble again
    • Use Edgar's notebook to see the layout in the assembly window
    • The fried quantum core in the middle, and the bits in the 8 adjacent boxes

Tier 6/6

  • Use the upgraded core to super charge a roaming golem.
  • Collect anima charged quantum particles
    • Kill the Golem Type 3 and he will leave behind "Anima Charged Quantum Particles"
  • Assemble the parts into a final quantum weapon
    • "Y" to assemble
    • Edgar's notebook will show you the layout
    • Bracer / Core / Particles

Other Information

  • Completion of this mission also awards the Scrapyard Science achievement
  • This mission is repeatable, but it has a 72-hour cooldown instead of the normal 24-hour.
