Research the Orochi conducted on the mountain trolls and how they respond to exposure to the Filth has been lost. Track it down and attempt to retrieve it.

Winston Smith: You have no idea where she is?
Julia Smith: She vanished again. Fuck! I told you we need to restrain her.
Winston Smith: She's a child, Julia. A child. we can't treat her like...
(Winston notices the camera is on)
Winston Smith: Damn it. We have a report scheduled. Uh... We'll just edit out the bits that... Emma... the, the subject, she's taken a walk... Again... She'll be back. The outpost is still radio silent. It's been ten days, I think it's clear they didn't make it, but we haven't been able to verify this, given the circumstances. The camp is surrounded by that new species they were doing tests on.
Julia Smith: They were gathering data about the Filth and its effect on the mountain creatures.
Winston Smith: We're probably the only ones left.
Julia Smith: The last report arrived three days before the attack, but the data was lacking in detail, and it was inconclusive. I believe there may be more data on-site, but it's a risky endeavour, given our situation.
Winston Smith: It might be worth it. We need to understand what's happened, and there might be answers in the data. it could be the key to... to everything. The Breach. Ground Zero. The Filth. Emma... Everything that... Emma!
(sound of a door closing, Julia goes off-screen)
Julia Smith: Where the hell have you been? Come here!
Emma Smith: Ow. Ow! Stop it!
Julia Smith: You know you're not allowed to-
Emma Smith: Ow!
(magic special effects, Julia gets thrown backwards on the floor)
Winston Smith: Emma, what are you...? Emma? Emma!

Tier 1

Voice recording on the Orochi computer
Voice: They're coming up to the surface- We can't hold an exposed position. Orochi core says our odds are strategically better at the old power plant.

Journal Entries

  • Tier 1: While the Smiths were still at the cabin they were desperately trying to get in touch with the Orochi research detail stationed in a small outpost outside the main operations at the Breach. From the information on the tape, the outpost could have been overrun, but the information in their research could hold lots of answers and might still be at the site.
    • Locate the Orochi outpost
    • Find a functioning Orochi terminal
    • Access the terminal and find out what happened
  • Tier 2: The tapes indicate the Orochi outpost was overrun by mountain trolls and the personnel had to evacuate to the power plant. They surely took their research with them.
    • Locate the entrance to the power plant
    • Gain access to the research data

Your report, plugged into our models, reveals a pretty clear pattern. The eight-headed dragon was tampering with events and ended up biting its own tail.

The Orochi were testing the mountain creatures with the intent of sending them into the Breach to do their filthy work for them. Then the mountain creatures struck back.

The Breach is deep. Too deep. And even if the Orochi are not longer operating it, the fact that it's being operated at all is grave news. It is time for the true Dragon to tamper with events.

Remind me again why I stuck my neck out for you. Everything with an Orochi logo is as a red flag to a bull to you.

It doesn't take a genius to realize the Orochi were testing the mountain creatures' reaction to the Filth for a reason. I'll wager they were planning to send them down into the Breach to keep digging. And if they were planning to keep digging after they'd already dug too--

Frankly, I'm not sure I want to know.

Well, I obviously do. Keep me in the loop.

I'm not yet entirely sure what to make of this news. It seems to me the Orochi were conducting experiments in order to gauge the mountain creatures' suitability for labour within the Breach.

That tells me they were planning to dig ever deeper, even after they reached a boiling point.

Should we be glad the Orochi were replaced, or should we be terrified by the new occupants? I am afraid it's probably too early to tell.
