The Aten cultists are dealing with power and energy they shouldn't be dealing with. They are worshiping dark forces and performing dangerous rituals. Somebody has to intervene..

Tier 1

Tanis: So what are you, red team? Blue team? Green team?
Tanis: You're all the same to me.
Tanis: You know who I work for, so let's cut the bullshit.
Tanis: We are not in this together.
Tanis: You and me wil never be friends,
Tanis: and the day will come when I will have this gun pointed at your head and I will pull the trigger.
Tanis: Lucky for you, that day is not quite here yet.
Tanis: The snakes, they are my eyes and ears beyond the city walls.
Tanis: I never back away from a fight, but I'm not stupid enough to go out there and risk my life without good reason.
Tanis: The cultists are getting bold and careless,
Tanis: high on dreams and whispers of death and darkness.
Tanis: They're playing with powerful magic.
Tanis: And the old gods have plenty of tricks up their sleeves.
Tanis: I don't usually subscribe to any of that "my enemy's enemy" bullshit,
Tanis: but in this case I see the value in a bit of...fact sharing.
Tanis: For old times' sake.
Tanis: No more games.
Tanis: You know I have a hidden agenda,
Tanis: I know you have a hidden agenda,
Tanis: but there will be nothing for us to fight over if we let these
Tanis: amateurs mess things up for everybody.
Tanis: Do we understand each other?

Phoenicians manipulate goods. We manipulate forces and ideas. At the present time, this distinction does not make us enemies.

At least, that is our perspective. The Phoenicians have likely not forgotten 1550 in Japan. Nor 1750 in China and Australia.

It is fair to say that we exude existential dominance over Carthage.

Nonetheless, we both share a greater concern. It is good to rely on the eyes of others. You will need many eyes to see into the heart of Aten. That is where the great enemy lies.

The Phoenicians are our enemies because they want similar things: control, money, power. At the end of the day, at least you can comprehend them. The Atenists are less predictable. Worship can't be bought, that's what makes it dangerous.

So long as the sun-flakes are trying to turn Egypt into the blood altar of Africa, keep playing nice with whoever can help you. Then, after things have settled, we'll turn on Tanis - and anyone else we have to.

Fun fact: we were allies of the purple people in the time of Saladin - all to defame the Templars, of course.

Rest assured, we are concerned by the Atenists' interest in summoning rituals and inquiring into their forms of worship. It is safe to say they are acquiring power from more than just the sun.

For now, I am thrilled that you are prioritising your enemies. The Phoenicians are a threat, but maniacal cultist hordes that wish to drown Egypt in blood must always come first.

Lying, murderous thieves can come second.

When the greater good is at stake, we will work with whoever we have to.
