Dialogue

Introduction Cut Scene

Callisto: The centuries are too long and too cold for vendetta.
Callisto: I have tried to purge myself of it all. her betrayal of Vlad Dracula, my patron, my friend...
Callisto: The "queen" Mara has surely forgotten hunting me for some new cruel pursuit.
Callisto: But how can I forget? It was she who named me Callisto, from her Greek studies.
Callisto: A woman's name, I did not say she studied well.
Callisto: And it was she who made me all that I now am.
Callisto: Less than human, a bloodthirsty beast, a cowering Judas.
Callisto: She made a trophy of me before I could resist. Haughty, hungering...
Callisto: She was certain that Vlad too would bare his neck for her. She misjudged him badly.
Callisto: He shared none of my weaknesses for flesh, for power, for immortality.
Callisto: We three were puppets in a passion play. But to whose strings did we truly dance?
Callisto: That one earns my enmity until the sun is swallowed up.
Callisto: The shape, the scent of a woman, I never saw clearly, but I sense her everywhere!
Callisto: In the candle's guttering flame. In the pool of a shattered flagon.
Callisto: In rose petals crushed underfoot. Traces of red.
Callisto: Even now, even here, to this very day!
Callisto: But it cannot be. My hate deludes me.
Callisto: She's a vision, a dream... My shame and guilt made waking dream.
Callisto: And the centuries have passed, too long and too cold for vendetta.

Tier 5

  • After you solve the 3rd line of verse and begin to look for the vault, you hear Mara's voice but don't see her.
Mara: Poor poet, how far will you go without going all the way? You're so thirsty, but you don't drink. Must we play this game forever? The truth is I find your poems boring and you'll get nothing from me. At least, no more than the endless years you've gotten already. The water babbles, Callisto, but not for you. Because you were never among her favoured.

Journal Entries

  • Tier 1: Mara gave Allesandro Farussi the name Callisto after taking an interest in Greek mythology. Their relationship has since twisted into something obsessive and grotesque, but even in the beginning she and the poet were drawn to each other. Uncover more about their past.
    • Find the place where Mara studied
    • Search the library for a book about Callisto
  • Tier 2: Mara and the poet spent hours in this library while Vlad was away at battle. here she was introduced to a new world of knowledge. This is where she first took interest in Callisto, and where their relationship grew, one line verse at a time.
    • Search the library
    • Take the spectral lyre
  • Tier 3: These melodies are invitations. mara has long expected CAllisto to come seeking answers, knowing that neither could forget what happened. At first their relationship was something celestial, then became more playful, more mischievous, more cunning.
    • Play the spectral lyre
    • Follow the trail
    • Remove the protective wards
    • Take the symbol of Jupiter
    • Take the symbol of Juno

    • Solve the third line of the verse
  • Tier 5: This isn't where the story ended. Soon Mara would fall under a more sinister spell. She would take the path of so many monks who boiled water in her name. And so she shifted her most precious belongings to where the still watter babbled - where her new mistress bade them to strip and drink and bathe in light
    • Find Mara's hidden vault
    • Unlock the vault
    • Read Mara's journal

The mind need not stretch very far to imagine how Callisto and Mara were bound. They tormented each other long before the red thread appeared. We want, we must, we cannot. Such trivial tragedies play out in the dark.

But then came the other, made things more interesting. A playful game became more sinister. The link between Callisto and Mara now plays a part in grander schemes of survival.

You will meet her one day - the red haired other. We encourage you to stay away from her tongue, her enchanted hair, the first gold, still she sits, young, while the earth is old. It it dangerous to utter her name at this time. Though, once the words are out there, they belong to everyone.

Oh my god do it already. Wait, or did they already do it? Ugh, so confused right now. I am seriously tempted to shift all our priorities toward this thing just to see how it ends.

Here's my reading so far: Callisto and Mara were getting all cuddly when some other woman appeared and stole the soap opera. Some bullshit ethereal figure they both invented to cover up and/or justify their little love affair? Unlikely.

I would love to give you a detailed physical description of this other woman so you can be on the lookout. Unfortunately, everyone she comes in contact with seems to get all gaga, or twisted, or dead.

Ciao-ciao

"My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;

Coral is far more red, than her lips red" (Sonnet 130).

Callisto was no Shakespeare, but I have a pet theory that the same dark lady may have infiltrated their lives and coloured their verse. Mara is no fair youth in all this, but she is indeed a puppet in a play. That other has been sowing torment since long before their time.

I won't insult your intelligence by uttering her name again. Besides, I have heard from respectable sources that once she touches the tongue, it is very difficult to turn back.

We need only look to Mara for the evidence.
