Mission Story.png Black Sun, Red Sand       Story Mission
UNREPEATABLE (Recommended Level 31)
You were assigned by your secret society to contact the Council of Venice representative in Egypt.
Tier 1
You were assigned by your secret society to contact the Council of Venice representative in Egypt. They are likely within the besieged village of al-Merayah.
  • Gather information from the locals.
  • Complete "The Siege of al-Merayah"
  • Meet the Council of Venice delegation in al-Merayah
Tier 2
Amparo, the Council of Venice observer, has been investigating the strange events in this Egyptian valley. She believes the Orochi Group, the Phoenician mercenaries and another party are all involved, and have removed an artifact of great power. But her immediate concern is with the cultists - brainwashed murderous disciples of the Aten religion. She hopes they can be followed to their nest and potentially their leader.
  • Search al-Merayah and its outskirts for the cultists' hideout.
  • Infiltrate the Atenist gathering
  • Find a route into the inner sanctum
  • Enter the inner sanctum
Tier 3
In the tunnels beneath al-Merayah, you witnessed a meeting between the leader of the cultists and an ominous man. He was dismissive of the Aten cult and demanded the Atenists supply him with more artifacts in return for his support. He left for another "business" arrangement.
  • Follow the suited man
  • Reach the Marya camp
  • Wait for Marya reinforcements
  • Defend the Marya camp
  • Survey the battle site
Tier 4
After defending the Marya Camp from the Atenist assault, you received an anonymous text message suggestion you visit the local tea house for more information.

  • Kill the Cultist Quartermaster
  • Inspect the Phonecian crate
  • Climb the scaffolding
  • Jump across the scaffolding to reach the exit
  • Locate the end of the tunnels

Tier 6
It seems the Phoenicians have made their way into al-Merayah and may be working with the cultists. Finding the Phoenician agent the crate was meant for may provide some much-needed answers to their involvement.

Tier 9
The Oxford scholars Arun Singh and Montgomery de la Roche explained the hidden truth of the valley. All the ancient structures are merely the outskirts of a great city - the forbidden city the prophet spoke of. It has been sealed away inside the mountains, but it seems Orochi may have already breached it. The scholars were reluctant to investigate further.
  • Locate the door marked with the symbol of Aten
  • Examine the note
  • Continue Singh's research to open the door
  • Find the last statue, Anubis
  • Enter the sealed chamber

  • Nefertari - ??
  • Moutemoia - Leech heal
  • Hemitneter - Reduces Akhenaten's physical defense
  • Moutnefert - ??
  • Nefertari the younger - Protection buff
  • Houy - ??

When Akhenaten, the Black Pharaoh casts Aten Stirs, you'll need to cross the bridges to the edge of the room to get out of its area of effect. If a bridge is glowing, it will disappear after the spell is case, do not cross that one.

Ah, there you are! Hope you don't mind my tracking down your personals.

Listen, I believe in practicing sustainable business with competent partners. After all, we tend to take a very long view of things in the Kingdom. Indeed, we have made some conspicuous slips of late. Death cult conspicuous.

I suppose we really should try to make up for it, but lets not forget that we all make mistakes. Believe me, your kind has made mistakes.

So, lets not get hung up on who shipped what for whom. Life goes on, I should think...

My people will call your people. We'll do lunch!

If this fabled city is all it's cracked up to be, we need to be there. Our theoreticians are chomping at the bit to model this system; there are so many unknowns, so much potential for chaos to reign supreme.

To control it, however, we also have to control the flow of contraband artifacts being transported out of the hidden city. If the Oxford University scholars are correct, it's a potential gold mine, but we can't have gold diggers with no concept of how magic functions selling these things to the highest bidders. We'll be dealing with a hurricane force storm.

Find the source of this storm, and still it. We need to find a way to control this system before we take any further steps.

This is turning out to be quite the cliffhanger serial you've gotten embroiled in. Mummies, gods, sexy archaeologists, oh my!

Seriously, whenever some ancient god threatens to rise, it pays to be vigilant. And there's the whole problem with rogue relics ending up in the wrong hands, i.e. not ours. There's enough turmoil in the secret world, we don't need rogue cells of the sun-worshipping cult d'jour currently fucking around with forces beyond their understanding to have access to weapons of mass destruction.

I guess what I'm saying is: put an end to this. I'll only ask nicely once.

It appears the lovely Ms. Osorio is right: things are not as they should be in Egypt. Dark machinery grinds away inside the hidden city, tempered only by fading magic. "A great evil is rising in the sands" indeed.

Our boys from Oxford have done exceptionally well. You will follow their lead and proceed into the mountains at your earliest convenience. Whether or not the archaeologists are right about their ancient god, we can ill afford to let this opportunity to uncover more of Egypt's secrets slip us by.

And we can ill afford to have more relics ending up on black markets around the world - relics that would unbalance the entire secret world.

We utterly failed to predict this outcome. Our servers are running through some heavy arithmagic to factor in the new developments. Until we have managed to build revised models, a low profile should be maintained.

Finish your disruptions inside the temple city and return to the Dragon. Our plans will be ready.

That was an unfortunate turn of events. You are never to engage directly with the Orochi Group, it might pose diplomatic issues. The Council wouldn't be pleased.

It is probably best to discuss this face to face. When you have finished your current assignments, please return to London.

Meeting the Council of Venice representative

Amparo: ???? (Comment about being careful of the circles on the ground)
Amparo: They do not differentiate between friend and foe. Anything that smells of Anima, clean or tainted, and the fireworks go off.
Amparo: That was the third attack in as many days.
Amparo: The Aten worshipers are getting more aggressive, and our defenses are under strain.
Amparo: We need the help. Muchas gracias.
Amparo: This is all I have, the entire Council of Venice delegation: one field operative,
Amparo: Amparo Osorio, buenas, and a handful of armed personnel.
Amparo: Hardly enough manpower to deal with a situation like this.
Amparo: Something has gone terribly wrong here, far beyond the earthquakes, locust swarms and rain of fire.
Amparo: I believe something has been taken from this place, a dangerous artifact that may be behind the cruel wind that has brought these dark clouds upon us.
Amparo: I am convinced that the Orochi are involved, somehow.
Amparo: As are the Phoenicians; their loyalties can be bought.
Amparo: But there's someone else, too, someone with a lot of resources and friends in the highest places...
Amparo: Them, I do not know.
Amparo: But the Council won't listen! No one listens. My reports vanish in red-tape,
Amparo: and I don't receive the resources I need.
Amparo: It's as if someone is deliberately trying to slow me down.
Amparo: And so I dig on my own, and attract the attention of the cultists.
Amparo: I fear the Council may be compromised from the inside.
Amparo: I don't know who to trust, whether they want me to find the truth, or if they want me to bury it deep below the sand.
Amparo: All I know is that this is too important to bury.
Amparo: Too important to keep secret.
Amparo: Whatever it is that happened, it happened right here, in this town.
Amparo: Normal people were turned into mindless, murderous sheep, bent on darkness, death, and destruction.
Amparo: But like sheep, they only know how to follow...
Amparo: and if you follow the sheep, they might lead you to the shepherd, yes?

Tier 3

The Inner Sanctum

Berihun: They are your servants now,
Berihun: ready to bend to your every whim.
Abdel Daoud: You are mistaken, my friend.
Abdel Daoud: We are all servants of Aten. I am merely His prophet.
Berihun: H'm, whatever you say, my "friend."
Berihun: As long as your slaves provide us with offerings,
Berihun: you will remain a prophet. Or become a god if you wish.
Berihun: Fail us, and that power vanishes.
Berihun: Everything...vanishes.
Abdel Daoud: The Marya are getting help from the outsiders.
Abdel Daoud: That was not part of the deal. You said-
Berihun: The deal is simple!
Berihun: Give us what we want, we give you what you want.
Berihun: We are not getting what we want.
Abdel Daoud: You will. It is only a matter of time, He will be unleashed. Trust me.
Berihun: Trust? You speak to me of trust?
Berihun: Trust is a sign of weakness.
Berihun: I only trust what I can see before me.
Berihun: I have other business.
Berihun: We will talk soon; you will deliver to me what you have promised.
Berihun: Or all of this will go away. This...
Berihun: madness.
Priest: Praise be upon Aten!
Priest: Praise be upon His prophet Akhenaten, the Black Pharaoh! Go forth and do His bidding!
Priest: And may He lay waste to heretics and unbelievers...
The Suited Man

Berihun: We need you to transport another shipment. We will pay you well.
Said: From one man in a fedora to another, we had a deal for one shipment.
Said: We honoured our deal, but the time has come for us to part ways.
Berihun: I see.
Berihun: The Marya are merely peasants with Kalashnikovs, and the Council of Venice...
Berihun: an inconvenience. Nothing more. They will all fall in the end.
Said: They're not the issue, not at all. You are.
Said: You don't understand the consequences of your actions. You're dangerous, unpredictable.
Said: Terrible traits in a business partner.
Berihun: You are right. I am dangerous.
Said: If I had a pebble for every thug who tried to shake me down the last three thousand years, I'd build a great pyramid of my own.
Said: Humans fear the end so fiercely, they still think death is the ultimate deterrent.
Said: Have I got news for you.
Berihun: Who said anything about death? There are far worse things.
Berihun: I know ways to make even a dead man scream.
Berihun: There are forces out there older than the Kingdom, older than the sun, with power unwitnessed by the likes of you.
Berihun: Power we just unleashed upon the world.
Berihun: But that was just the beginning.
Berihun: The Marya will feel that power. Venice will feel that power.
Berihun: Those living...weapons.
Berihun: And once they are all gone...
Berihun: Who knows what we will do?
Berihun: So choose your allegiance wisely, dead man.
Said: Well then. I thought we might treat ourselves to an ice lolly after the meeting, but clearly our business is concluded.
Said: Mortals. Always something to prove.
Said: I trust you caught the gist of that conversation.
After defending the Marya Encampment

Khalid "Do not be angry, Master. You know how prone these people are to evil."
Khalid I have fought this war many times. The weapons may change, but the faces do not.
Khalid Those unfortunate souls turned by the Aten look the same as they ever did.
Khalid Their eyes mad, their skin ashen, their minds clouded; they are in the grip of the dreamers. They are no longer human.
Khalid The sun worshipers want nothing more than the destruction of everything.
Khalid They want to see the Earth scorched, cities burned to the ground, and their priests transformed into dark angels.
Khalid If they only knew what they were truly working for.
Khalid No less than the extinction of all life, by forces beyond our reckoning.
Khalid This time, however, it's different.
Khalid This time, the plagues were unleashed by outsiders.
Khalid Oh, the evil was seeded long before anyone from the outside ever set foot in this valley, but it would have found no soil to grow in were it not for those who came greedily seeking the riches of the forbidden city.
Khalid Now the high priest Abdel Daoud and his disciples who worship the Black Pharaoh and their cruel god Aten are spreading like locusts.
Khalid That which began with outsiders must also be mended by outsiders.
Khalid My strength is waning, after thousands of years in the deserts of my life, and the Marya...
Khalid They cannot do this on their own.
Khalid Yes, I am putting it all on you, child.
Khalid You and those like you, the ones chosen by the Earth itself... or by the Master.
Khalid But I am not yet dead, and my vow to the sixty-four is long broken, so I will do what I can to aid you in your plight.
Khalid Among those who came here to dig, there are some that may harm you and some that may help you.
Khalid Seek them out, and seek their knowledge.
Khalid If I knew who to trust, I would not keep it from you.

Tier 6

Behind the Cafe

Said: Did you suppose "he's eternal, what's another ten minutes," hmm?
Said: This is why I swore off Aegean girls.
Said: Out with it, then.
Tanis: We want you to fulfill the terms of your agreement.
Tanis: You do not get to skip out on a contract signed in blood.
Said: For a moment there, I thought a Phoenician arms dealer was trying to lecture me on principles.
Said: We had a deal on the table, then you cut another deal with a death cult. We want no part in that.
Said: Besides, Venice has called in the bees.
Tanis: The mighty and ancient Kingdom, afraid of a little sting?
Said: I'm not taking on any new enemies at the moment.
Tanis: You're making one right now.
Said: You have made a simple arrangement infinitely more complicated. My advice?
Said: Get that ass of yours insured. It would be your gift to the world.
Said: Oh please, we're above this. Well, one of us is.
Said: Mmmm... Gun oil, desperation and cheap perfume.
Said: Tanis, Tanis, Tanis.
Tanis: So what do you want... Money? Blood sacrifices? The Spear of Destiny?
Tanis: We have the wealth of Carthage, there must be something you want.
Said: Goodness, let's not debase ourselves any more than we absolutely must.
Said: Not wealth. Honour. Carthage has long sold out of that stock.
Said: You've made your sarcophagus, now go lie in it.
Said: I shouldn't think we'll meet again.
Tanis: Fucking mummies.
Berihun: I told you they would all desert you.
Berihun: They lack the conviction, and they will burn for it.
Berihun: Come. Let us discuss our...
Berihun: bright and shining future.

Tier 8

The Oxford Dig Site

Montgomery de la Roche: Ahah!
Montgomery de la Roche: Ah...Advantage yours.
Arun Singh: (As Montgomery falls to the ground and the mummy prepares to stab him) Monty!
Montgomery de la Roche: I think, I really do think, I'm getting a touch old for this.
Arun Singh: Like hell you are. They say you're only as old as you feel.
Arun Singh: And you feel...
Montgomery de la Roche: We have company.
Arun Singh: Arun Singh. My partner, Montgomery de la Roche. We are from Oxford. Occult department.'
Montgomery de la Roche: Under the circumstances that may be a redundancy, Arun.
Arun Singh: You taught me to always value precision, Monty. Even at the expense of economy.
Arun Singh: I take it you're not here for the scenery.
Arun Singh: That's our territory.
Montgomery de la Roche: We have trodden carefully on this brittle ground, aware of any misstep that might...unearth things that should remain buried.
Arun Singh: Not like those boorish Orochi thugs. We would have left a discovery of this magnitude undisturbed...
Arun Singh: Well...
Montgomery de la Roche: Largely undisturbed. Those jackboots barrelled over us with no thought to the consequences.
Arun Singh: This excavation, all of the the constructions in the valley, they're only a wall dressing. Markers.
Arun Singh: An antechamber to a second site, a massive complex. An entire city, sealed away-
Arun Singh: Inside the mountains.
Montgomery de la Roche: Concealed from prying eyes.
Arun Singh: And Google Earth.
Montgomery de la Roche: Only now breached, to a creeping, terrifying end.
Montgomery de la Roche: You've heard of the mummy's curse and such, no doubt. Poppycock, pure rot.
Montgomery de la Roche: Yet some parts of the past were buried for a reason. Never to be unearthed.
Montgomery de la Roche: Not for greed, for science, even for academia.
Arun Singh: What Monty means to say is, we are not going inside that place.
Montgomery de la Roche: We are scholars, not...
Montgomery de la Roche: I fear that whatever is done to stem the tide, it will have little consequence when a tsunami awaits on the other side.
Arun Singh: (listening) There is singing.
Montgomery de la Roche: It's fading. That means something.

Tier 9

Returning To The Oxford Dig Site

Montgomery de la Roche: Mhm. I must have pulled something when we were opening that door.
Arun Singh: Don't blame the digging, blame the swordplay.
Arun Singh: Monty?
Montgomery de la Roche: Ah! Did you...?
Montgomery de la Roche: Splendid!
Arun Singh: Late Eighteenth dynasty...
Montgomery de la Roche: References to the Heretic King...
Arun Singh: There!
Arun Singh: The Sentinels! Monty...
Montgomery de la Roche: We were right.
Arun Singh: There was never any doubt.
Arun Singh: Never. Any. Doubt.
Montgomery de la Roche: Whatever lies within the ruined city has been guarded by the Seven Sentinels and their song.
Montgomery de la Roche: The song is now fading, and according to this...
Montgomery de la Roche: If it does... When, it does... the Heretic King will rise again.
Arun Singh: And his god, the Lord of Every Land, will rise with him.
Arun Singh: We believe this to be a very bad thing.
Montgomery de la Roche: A very bad thing indeed, my dear.

Tier 14

Entering the City of the Sun God

Ptahmose: They're beautiful, aren't they?
Ptahmose: I've seen all there is to see in this world and yet...
Ptahmose: every time I return here, they steal my breath away.
Ptahmose: Listen... Their song, it's also beautiful.
Ptahmose: It has kept this City of the Aten concealed since the monstrous reign of Akhenaten.
Ptahmose: The song of the Sentinels has kept him silenced, chained inside his tomb. Inside the black pyramid.
Ptahmose: It was naive of me to think it would be enough. That it would last forever.
Ptahmose: The disciples of the Aten have returned, as you well know.
Ptahmose: Akhenaten stirs in his sarcophagus. The Aten himself is awakening.
Ptahmose: That is why I have returned...
Ptahmose: perhaps for the last time.
Ptahmose: It's also why you have come, though you may not know it yet.
Ptahmose: No matter how far I travel, how long I'm away,
Ptahmose: I always return to my duty.
Ptahmose: To my children.
Ptahmose: We have sat vigil in this temple of nightmares for three thousand years.
Ptahmose: It may soon be at an end, one way or another.
Ptahmose: The vigil is over, and we fight.
Ptahmose: It's no longer enough to conceal this place; it must be destroyed.
Ptahmose: Each of their aspects, each of their spirits and the gods they represent, will be needed,
Ptahmose: and you must help us unite them all.
Ptahmose: Only then can the Black Pharaoh be defeated.
Ptahmose: Only then can we prevent the return of the Aten itself.
Ptahmose: And only then may my children finally be free of this place...
Ptahmose: of this world.
Sentinel Moutemouia

Ptahmose: This is my daughter, Moutemouia.
Ptahmose: She holds the veil that keeps this city hidden from the outside.
Moutemouia: Hello, Father.
Ptahmose: She embodies the spirit of Meretseger.
Moutemouia: Can you hear them whispering from beneath?
Moutemouia: The tombs are stirring and the dead are waking.
Moutemouia: My song is fading.
Moutemouia: The voices from beyond are getting louder.
Ptahmose: I know you are tired my sweet, but you must channel your spirit.
Sentinel Thutmose

Ptahmose: This is my eldest son, Thutmose.
Ptahmose: He is the falcon that watches over the pyramid.
Thutmose: Hello, Father, High Priest of Amun.
Ptahmose: He embodies the spirit of Horus.
Ptahmose: Channel your spirit, my son.

Tier 15

Sentinel Nefertari

Ptahmose: This is my oldest daughter, Nefertari.
Nefertari: Father.
Ptahmose: She binds the Black Pharaoh in his stone sarcophagus.
Ptahmose: She embodies the spirit of Ma'at.
Ptahmose: Channel your spirit, just daughter.
Ptahmose: Let justice be served, in the name of Ma'at.
Sentinel Houy

Ptahmose: This is my youngest son, Houy.
Ptahmose: He walks with the lord of the underworld, and he can bring sleep to the restless dead.
Ptahmose: He embodies the spirit of Anubis.
Ptahmose: Channel your spirit, son, with all your might.

Tier 16

Sentinel Moutnefert

Ptahmose: This is my little traveller, Moutnefert.
Moutnefert: Hello, baba.
Ptahmose: Her power is to cleanse the Filth, to nurture the soil. She has been tested more than most.
Moutnefert: The garden is corrupted. It must be cleansed.
Ptahmose: But fear not mau. Help has arrived. Channel your spirit for us.
Sentinel Nefertari the younger

Nefertari the younger: Through the eyes of the cat, I see you. Through the ears of the jackal, I hear you. Through the tongue of the viper, I sense you.
Nefertari the younger: Baba!
Ptahmose: This is my youngest daughter, Nefertari.
Ptahmose: She embodies the spirit of Bast.
Ptahmose: I need you to be strong, my darling, and channel your spirit for us.
Sentinel Hemitneter

Hemitneter: Hi father.
Ptahmose: This is my daughter, Hemitneter.
Ptahmose: She has the heart of a warrior, and she protects her family.
Ptahmose: Summon all your power, my daughter, and channel your spirit.
Hemitneter: I am sorry, father. My song is gone.
Hemitneter: It was stolen in the night by the men in the grey armour.
Hemitneter: May they burn in the afterlife!
Ptahmose: We must get it back.
Ptahmose: Without your voice, the song cannot be sung, and the Black Pharaoh will rise again.
Hemitneter: Please, help us.
Ptahmose: You must help us reclaim her voice.
Ptahmose: If the song falters, the Aten will stir and the world will be ashes.

Tier 17

Orochi

Orochi insider: A bit of advice, from one veteran of this war to another.
Orochi insider: Do not attempt to approach the pyramid until you have rectified the gigantic cock-up our operations there have made of things.
Orochi insider: I don't typically share HR issues with outsiders, but look around.
Orochi insider: I don't see a lot of other options, do you?
Orochi insider: They took something they weren't supposed to touch, despite direct order to leave those statues be.
Orochi insider: There's a delicate balance of energies inside the city,
Orochi insider: perfectly raceable on our latest generation cultware.
Orochi insider: In these circumstances, we usually leave things be and gracefully retreat, but that option no longer exists.
Orochi insider: Graceful exits or plain old denial won't make this one go away, I'm afraid.
Orochi insider: The Aten rises, and I find myself ill prepared for that particular event.
Orochi insider: You'll need to return what our people took, and fast.
Orochi insider: I found myself both deaf and blind during the events that ravaged our installation,
Orochi insider: but I'm certain there is data in our systems still that can help you.
Orochi insider: They've been designed to survive the End of Days,
Orochi insider: what's a little betrayal and massacre in comparison?
Orochi insider: You have what you need to get started. Quickly now, before the dark god awakes.
Orochi insider: I promise you he'll be ill tempered and ravenous.

Tier 18

Confrontation Within The Black Pyramid

Abdel Daoud: I remember you.
Abdel Daoud: What arrogance, to think that you can defeat a prophet. That you can fight a god.
Abdel Daoud: Look around you.
Abdel Daoud: Say your last prayers to your deceased deity, and prepare to face the eternal fire. The black sun will scorch the flesh from your bones, and burn you to ashes.
Abdel Daoud: Go forth, my children, and devour this blasphemy in the name of Aten. For the sun! For the black sun!

Tier 19

Another Place & Time

If you accepted the Gift at the end of Dawning Of An Endless Night
The Dreamer: We gave you gifts, you accepted them, and then you turn on us.
The Dreamer: Ungrateful child! How dare you come here, expecting our mercy and generosity?
The Dreamer: You are pathetic. Leave, and never come back.
If you rejected the Gift at the end of Dawning Of An Endless Night
The Dreamer: You rejected our kind and generous offer when you were here last.
The Dreamer: What makes you think we will allow you to enter our dreams?
The Dreamer: To speak with us? To gaze upon us?
The Dreamer: We are tired of you, maggot. Leave, or we will wipe you from existence.
The Dreamer: You are nothing but a parasite.
The Dreamer: You are insignificant.
The Dreamer: If I thought you were worth another thought, I would destroy you.
The Dreamer: But you are unworthy of our attentions.
A memory: Nicolas. Nicolas! Where are you? Call to me!
The Dreamer: You pathetic, fragile thing!
The Dreamer: Undone by mere molecules, by things so small they cannot even be seen.
The Dreamer: You are a ridiculous creation, weak and brief.
A memory: Where is he? Where is Nicolas Belmont? Is he still here?
The Dreamer: You think you can trust those around you, those you love and hold dear?
The Dreamer: You believe friendship to be anything but an illusion?
The Dreamer: They are all ours. Their words and their actions.
The Dreamer: We whisper in their dreams, and we make them do our bidding.
A memory: Who are you? Stop...whispering!
The Dreamer: We can enter your mind, and we can wreak havoc.
The Dreamer: We can leave you an empty shell, or we can instill you with fear and anger,
The Dreamer: like those you have seen and fought in the world above.
A memory: There must be a way out again..
The Dreamer: A mere thought from us, and you would vanish from this place and enter another.
The Dreamer: You would see sights that would destroy you, inside and out.
The Dreamer: We would leave only enough of you to mourn the loss of your soul.
A memory: I'm close, I can feel it. It's drawing me in.
The Dreamer: We nothing if not forgiving. Choose correctly, and we may allow you to make amends.
The Dreamer: The world can still be yours, if you simply accept our path.
The Dreamer: This kindness will not be extended to all who defy us. Only you.
The Dreamer: Kneel before us. Show us that you are with us, not against us.
Choose Confront

Dreaming voice: You ingrate! We gracefully extend a hand in forgiveness, and you spit into it.
Dreaming voice: You pathetic little thing! You unworthy animal!
Dreaming voice: You will infect our dreams no more, and the riches of the new world will never be yours!
Choose Kneel

Dreaming voice: We accept your humility. You stand with us. We will grant you another chance.
